Angel Jackson Autumn Winter 2009

August 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

As you may tell I am a big fan of Angel Jackson, I wear my Patent Luxor tote to death and I am already planning my next purcahse which judging by the Autumn Winter 2009 look book will either be in snake skin or adorned with feathers.

I think I may be swaying more towards the feather side of things, I recently bought a lovely pair of black and purple feather earrings which I have fallen in love with and which have kick started a mild obsession with all things feathery. There has also been a lot of chat about feathers in the blogosphere, Kingdom of Style and Style Bubble in particular; and I am currently of the mindset that feathers win everytime.

Thought these feather head dresses by YJ Designs on Etsy were also amazing! Theatrical brilliance!

Space age eyes

Lily Allen has been fairly hitting the festival scene this year, I saw her at T in the Park and she was amazing, and not only have I been loving her penchant for underwear as outwear, I have also been loving her eye make up.

I love this silvery eye look, its like she is a sci fi super hero with a hint of Jem…

In a word I think the look is a amazing, fairly easy to replicate a bit of Benefit High Beam (tones of), Urban Decay eye liner in silver and Mac glitter…  I think it would be pretty cool to get your hands on some silver or gold leaf  that would look pretty cool across the eyes and high cheekbone area.

Hold the phone I managed to find a gold leaf make up product, the Sephora Glam Box…

Veeeeeery interesting although it seems to be onlye available in the US… my search continues…

All these winter looks, I know its still August but when the weather is as miserable as it is you can’t help but let you mind wander to the crisp feel of a winters morning, getting all wrapped up in a multitude of layers, pulling out your (faux) fur jacket and hiding under woolly tights.

Four days of Amsterdam

August 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I am newly back from a lovely trip to Amsterdam…

Amongst the cheese, windmills, tulips, red light district, clogs and canals I had a swell ole time, well aside from almost getting swindled by some dodgy waitress and the bf being pick pocketed.

Amsterdam overall is a very relaxed city and I really loved that everyone cycled everywhere, inspired by all the skinny girls on their bikes (many of which were cycling to and from work in pretty dresses and heels) I am in the market to get my very own push bike which I will decorate with flowers and have sparkly tassle bits that my mum would never let me have when I was younger (boo! to mummy D).

Anyway I thought I would share some pictures of my adventures:

Arm candy

August 21, 2009 · 1 Comment

I do enjoy a masculine watch, for as long as I can remember I have wanted a Rolex, in particular the Submariner- purely because my dad has one and I have spent my entire life trying it on and tinkeling away with the rotating bezel (I think thats what its called!)…

rolex Submariner Rouge1680The only problem is (of course) the price tag, with a severe lack of a £££ kicking about my purse I have to put these dreams of Rolex to bed- for the meantime. There are plenty other beautifully crafted time pieces out there to keep me occupied, far too many in fact and my love for watches has turned into a bit of an obsession… some other styles I am loving include:

mickey mouse watch

Funnily enough my want for a mickey mouse watched started long time back when I read Dan Browns Angels and Demons and a character wore a mickey mouse watch… I have been keeping my eye out for an adult one for a while and now low and behold Urban Outfitters have started stocking them… not too sure if this makes me want to buy it or not though, I remember the Casio watches going from quite rare to everyone wearing them in an instant.

swatch villians collection

Do you remember Swatch watches when you were wee… I had one of the fabric ones that had the pop on pop off dial watch bit… was amazing! They really need to bring that style back in! Well I have developed a mild obsession with Swatch watches again I love bright and quirky watches and thats Swatch speciality isn’t it really, in particular this 007 Villian limited edition one, which I saw in my last escapade abroad. I failed to buy because of the crappy exchange rate and now it appears to be no longer available, I am truly upset! It glows in the dark and everything- awesome I know!

toy watch

Lastly, the Toy watch! Its almost like a wee plastic Rolex without the price tag! They are amazing, and are getting snapped up left right and centre, and I really want to be one of the lucky people who gets one because I hear they are selling out everywhere! They are a bargain at about £100 (I think), made of rubber but still retaining a chunky look and come in the bestest colours.

If bright and rubber is your flavour then you should check out Too Late watches, not my cup of tea but my boyfriend has one, loves it and wears it a lot…

toolate_watch

They are cheap, fun and come in a wee cute jar! We got ours in Italy so not sure of stockists here but I would recommend them for anyone looking for some colourful arm candy that doesn’t break the bank- ours cost about 20 euros!

Bargains to be found

August 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Everyone loves a bargain, none more so than me!

When it comes to fashion many people prefer to invest than to buy throw away fashion- I swing both ways. I really enjoy saving up for an expensive handbag or shoes but if I have a sudden outfit emergency then I cannot resist to impulse buy cheap throwaway items which will no doubt either fall to pieces or go out of fashion by the following season.

On the rare occasion, however, I have picked up a riduculously cheap item in an equally as cheap and random store and years later I am still wearing it; Matalan, Asda, Florence and Fred at Tesco, TKMaxx and Primark are all favourites (although even I, the bargain hunter that I am, have to admit that you have to hunt long and hard in Primark to find something that will last more than 2 washes and still be intact and the same size).

Shoes are a bit of a trickier situation, again Matalan has provided me with numerous excellent finds that, yeah they might have the squeak of cheap plastic and get scruffed far too easily, have done me well on lots of crazee nights out. In fact I have one pair of black patent white trimmed peeptoe shoe boots, based on a Gucci pair I believe, that have garnered so much compliments from random strangers that they have been carefully hidden away for fear that they might all of a sudden fall to piece and never be wearable again.

Anyway a new online store has came to my attention, which by the looks of it seems to sell bargain shoes in high fashion designs taking inspiration from popular high street styles. Now the difficulty I face in buying cheaps shoes online is the inability to try on… this is the key for any bargain hunter, if it doesn’t fit or looks the £10 price tage then it can no longer be deemed a bargain! My logic is, a bargain is something that if the items looks more expensive and can be fobbed off as having a more expensive price tag then it truly is a bargain.

Linzi Shoes is a debatable resource for bargain shoes, some look very wearable and passable as Topshop bought whilst others look cheap as…. thats just my personal opinion of course other peoples opinions of what looks good and what doesn’t may differ.

Anyway, I feel like I may have hit the bargain lottery; I have found a pair of shoes similar to brothel creepers which not only fulfill the bargain criteria but also fulfil a long and ardous search I have been having…

Please excuse the shoddy picture, for £28 pounds I feel happy that they will fulfil my Autumn shoe requirement. Next pay slip they are getting snapped up and worn with tights and denim cut offs… and if they fall apart at the first instance of rain then at least I would have looked good for whatever fraction of time I wore them for!

I’ll keep you informed!

What a doll

Is it just me or was Dolly Parton the best back in the day?!

I present exhibit A

I present exhibit B

My brain is having trouble computing how amazing her hair looks and the fact that she also went on to produce such magnificence such as Steel Magnolias and 9 to 5 (I pretend to hate it but deep down I love it!)… With my current obsession with all things cowboys it only feels natural that I throw myself into it full heartedly which means, having mega hair!

I have two technques (when in a rush I do the GHDs for curls but it tends to leave me a bit flat up top and I need a bit of volume y’know) the first technique is blow drying your hair with a massive barrel brush.

A lot of my friends complain that they cannot work with their hair, the brush and the hairdryer all at the same time, it is hard but once you get the hand of it it is really easy. The key is to use volume mousse ( I prefer Toni & Guy stuff) and blow drying your hair until it is around 90% dry before you even pick up the barrel brush. Once 90% dry, I work through my hair starting with the underlayer at the base of my neck. Start at the top bring the brush to the full length of the hair, just as you get to the end of the section of hair quickly roll the brush up wrapping the hair around it focus the heat of the dryer on your hair as it is rolled around your brush. Focus the heat for about 10 seconds then let the heat of the brush continue to do the work. After another 10 seconds carefully unroll the hair, do not pull the brush down thus tangling your hair up and ruining the achived curl! I wouldn’t worry to much about getting a full curl on the underside of your hair but on the top part I like to redo it until I get a bit of a seventies curl on the go- when styling the front curl sections away from your face to create a seventies Charlies Angel look.

The other way I (try to) get volume and a bit of curl is with rollers! Everyone knows how to put rollers in, I would just recommed that you focus on the crown and top sections of you hair again wrapping the hair around the rollers away from the face, use a spray gel on the roots, pull the rollers down the hair from the roots smoothing the section of hair and spreading the gel throughout, wind the section of hair up and use a kirby grip to hold the wee velcro roller in place. Do this all over and spray with hairspray and give a wee blast of the hair dryer. Leave the rollers in for a maximum amount of time, I leave it for an hour usually and unwind in the same way as above taking care not to frizz it up- the roots will be a bit crispy so get a round brush and carefully brush the sections out ensuring the volume is kept, and top up with major hairspray. This wont give as much curlage but is guaranteed to give volume!

If all else fails invest in a Lady Schick…. came across this amazing vid on YouTube, features the late Farrah Fawcett (RIP) the queen of the 70s flick.

Country lane in the middle of Glasgow

August 11, 2009 · 2 Comments

Glasgow lane

Meandering around the west end with the mr friend I came across a lovely wee lane which looked like it had been plucked from the countryside! I could imagine myself sipping a cup of sweet tea wearing a floral dress in that wee lane *sigh*… Just thought I would share it with you.

Cowgirl retro poster

In all seriousness I think I would make a good cowgirl! I have became mildy obsessed with retro images of old school cowgirls! I think it has been a slow burner all starting with my plaid shirts which then progressed to ankle studded boots which then progressed to denim shirts which then, I am not ashamed whatsoever to admit, progressed to the purchase of some serious feather earrings… it could be the Yank in me or it could be that I am slightly bored of wearing normal clothes but the inner child in me really really wants to dress up as a cowboy for work tomorrow.

Get the sheriff

Too much?? I thought so, I couldn’t help it- features my fav boots and shirt both from Topshop!
